We hope to have some type of agreement in place soon, but there is no guarantee.
We are in the process of removing all Trail Signage from the above.

Collection ‘Tithe My Shoes’ Underway

This is the fourth year of the “TITHE MY SHOES,” collection. Since, 2013 we have collected 643 pairs of used shoes and as my friend Ralph Rotella would say, “Warm Feet Warm Hearts.”

An effort is underway to collect 1,000 pairs of boots and shoes throughout Oswego County by Dec. 15. The shoes will be delivered to the Rescue Mission in Syracuse, which works with various charities throughout the region to deliver shoes and boots in good condition to those in need. Below is a list of drop off and collection stations.

Millard “Mudd” Murphy, former mayor of Central Square and executive director of the Oswego County Conferences of Mayors, started the drive locally and has coined it “Tithe My Shoes.” Tithe My Shoes was inspired by Discount Shoe Repair shop owner Ralph Rotella. Last year, the congregations at Caughdenoy United Methodist, Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Central Square Community Church, Mallory Wesleyan, Victory Bible Church in Central Square, along with Fulton Savings Bank of Central Square and Assemblyman Will Barclay's Office in Fulton collected a total of 381 pairs of shoes, boots and sneakers and donated them to Rotella, the owner of Discount Shoe Repair in Syracuse. Rotella refurbishes the shoes so they can be worn again and sends them to the Rescue Mission for distribution.

Many people asked if any of the footwear would be recycled back in to Oswego County. The answer is YES! The Rescue Mission Store located at 57 E. Bridge St. Oswego N.Y. will handle all local needs for shoes in Oswego County. This year Murphy hopes to reach his goal of collecting 1,000 pairs of shoes by Dec 15 so they can be delivered in time to Rotella. Last year Rotella collected more than 10,000 shoes for the Rescue Mission. Shoes may be dropped off at the following locations:

• Mallory Wesleyan Church at 5 Baum Rd in Mallory
• Caughdenoy United Methodist Church at the corner of County Route 12 and 37 in Caughdenoy
• Victory Bible Church at the corner of Route 11 and Hungry Lane in Central Square
• Assemblyman Barclay’s office at 200N. Second St. Fulton (Second floor, above the Department of Motor Vehicle Office)
• Village of Central Square Municipal Offices 3125 East Ave, Central Square
In advance, we want to thank you for all those old shoes that warmed your feet and now can warm the feet and hearts of others. Thank you very much. Mudd

ALERT: Mosquito spraying Fri 8/14

8/12/2015: We received a telephone call from Jiancheng Huang, Director of Public Health and they have tentatively scheduled mosquito spraying for Friday night in Central Square area.

EEE & West Nile

Reminder as spring approaches: Many times Central Square is falsely given as the positive pools. Past experience has shown that when we are mentioned it is usually near the village or in the Toad Harbor area. Still the best defense is to take precautions such as try to stay indoors after dusk, use insect repellent etc. If there are positive test: There is a procedure in place. There is funding at the county level for spraying. They test and monitor the pools. When there is a positive test they contact our Town Supervisor and Village Mayor. When the counts get to the point where spraying is necessary, the county puts the spraying plan in to effect. It is not the village that does this. Our Mayor is kept up to date, as well as the board as to the counts. When it is deemed necessary to spray the county will release it to the media. If spraying effects the village, we also post it on our website. If spraying is deemed necessary there are other precautions residents should take.

Although a person's chances of experiencing any health effects from mosquito spraying are quite low, it is wise to take the following steps to reduce exposures to insecticides during spraying:
*Remain indoors when pesticides are sprayed in your immediate area.
*Keep children inside during spraying and for at least one hour after spraying ends.
*Close windows and doors before spraying begins.
*Window-unit air conditioners should be turned off or set to "recirculate" mode so outside air does not come into the house during the spraying. Leave them off for at least one hour after spraying ends, or continue to operate on the recirculate setting for an hour.
*If you must remain outside during spraying, avoid getting spray in your eyes or on your skin.
*If you get insecticide in your eyes, immediately rinse them with water.
*Wash exposed skin surfaces with soap and water if you come in contact with the insecticide.
*Wash homegrown fruits and vegetables thoroughly before cooking or eating.
*Cover outdoor tables and play equipment before the spraying begins, or wash them with soap and water after they have been sprayed.
*Bring laundry and toys inside before spraying begins. (Wash these items with soap and water if exposed to insecticide during spraying.)
*Before spraying, bring pets, pet food and water bowls inside and cover ornamental fishponds to avoid direct exposure to the spray.
*Consult your doctor if you think you are experiencing health effects from the spraying. People who suffer from chemical sensitivities or feel spraying may aggravate a preexisting health condition may consult their physician or local health department.
